Sweet Pea Seeds

Sweet Pea Flower Seeds produce wonderfully unique, colorful and fragrant blossoms, some of which climb and some of which don’t, all of which can be grown either in containers or in the garden. The earliest record of sweet peas being grown in the garden, as opposed to the wild, is in 1699. Since that point in time, natural mutations have taken place and connoisseurs of the lovely Sweet Pea have continued to breed them, creating larger and more showy blossoms, though with a slight reduction of the intense honey-orange fragrance present in the much smaller and inconspicuous blossoms of old.

Sweet Pea's botanical name is Lathyrus odoratus, pronounced LATH-ih-rus oh-dore-AY-tus, and is actually a member of the legume family, as are edible peas. These sweet-smelling blossoms first grew in the wild, their heady aroma attracting attention and spurring an interest in growing them domestically. Though, through selective breeding, the perfume is not as heavy, a small bouquet is still capable of scenting a whole room. Not only do the plants produce ever more blossoms when their flowers are cut for your vases, but you will save a fortune in air freshener while having the added benefit of carefree decorating. Just pick your stems of sweet peas early in the morning and put them in water right away. Don’t have vases? Use a grouping of saved food jars or mason jars instead. Anything that can hold water can be used as a vase!

As all blooming flowers expend a lot of energy, we recommend regular feeding with Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Sweet Pea seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
