Magnus Echinacea Seeds

SKU: SFS-ECH-MAG-ER
Our ‘Magnus’ Echinacea Seed is another purple Coneflower variety, but with a shorter stature than many and with consistently swept back petals from an early age. Adding texture and filling those in-between-spots in your cut flower vases, Magnus is also ideal for the mid-area of your cutting garden. The cone is in hues of gold and green with a touch of purple close to the top. In the hottest climates, partial shade will result in richer coloration. You can divide Magnus every 4 years in the spring to keep it living its perennial life for a longer period of time. Approximately 75 seeds per each hand-filled packet. More details...

Magnus Echinacea Seeds Growing Information

Echinacea Flower Seed is one of the easiest flowers to grow from seed, able to be sown directly into the garden, as they prefer light, full or filtered, to germinate. The best method seems to be using a small implement, or just your forefinger, to create a shallow furrow. Lay the seeds down and water gently but thoroughly. You can very lightly cover them at planting or you can wait until you see them start to sprout to cover them, but they only require about 1/8-inch of soil. Germination normally takes from 10 to 20 days at soil temperatures above 70°F. You will eventually be thinning them to 18 to 24-inches apart. Plants normally flower 16 weeks after sowing, at which time, shear them back and wait for the second blooming! Not bothered by many pests, some gardeners in the East find that Japanese Beetles love their Echinacea. Try our highly concentrated NOCDOWN III to control both the grubs (the larvae) and the adults of the Japanese beetle.
