Hydrangea Plants

You may remember your grandma growing beautiful Hydrangeas in her yard, with the showy mounds of delicate flowers and the amazing pastel summer colors welcoming you, year after year.

The Hydrangea (pronounced hy-DRAIN-jah)is making a comeback in a huge way. Many of the varieties today grow in colder climates, tolerating temperatures of 5 to 10°F; others are so small that they can become a magnificent perennial border, while some varieties come in amazingly deep colors, previously not available. When growing Hydrangeas, you may want to test the pH of your soil so you will be certain about what flower color will emerge. In soil with a pH greater than 7.0, Hydrangea blooms will be pink; in soil with a pH less than 7.0, the blossoms will be blue.

Ranging in color from light, cotton-candy pink to deep, rose-pink and blooming on old wood, it is recommended you prune Paraplu in late summer after the blossoms have faded; her glossy, dark green foliage is even pretty when not in bloom. This little lady, a Proven Winners® ColorChoice® flowering shrub is said to stand up remarkably well to hot and humid conditions, as well as to the biting winter cold of the Midwest and the salty conditions of coastal areas, as long as she receives a bit of protection from direct salt spray. For purply-blue blossoms, plant her in acidic soil! Each 4-inch pot contains one Paraplu Hydrangea plant.
