Plant Features

Clematis Hagley Hybrid produces gorgeous 6-8-inch, mauve pink flowers in early summer on last years stems, then features another flush of blooms later in the summer from the current year’s growth. Introduce in 1956 as Pink Chiffon, it is still the best pink-blossomed clematis! Hagley can be grown in the ground or in containers. Avoid direct, hot sun. Clematis require moist soils to grow well. In northern gardens the do best in full sun but prefer lightly shaded areas in southern gardens. Deer seldom bother clematis.

Plant Care: Plants do best with a climbing support and with a few inches of mulch to keep their roots cool. This variety blooms on both old wood and new, so pruning is not necessary unless you want to shape the plant. Any shaping should be done in late winter.

Clematis Companion Plants: Dahlia, Phlox, Salvia
