Best suited for use in low-lying, loose-soiled areas, it will also thrive in clay, sand and silt, providing its moisture needs are met. Seedling vigor is considered good and establishment is quick; Tuuka Timothy grass is winter hardy and persistent. Being less competitive for nutrients due to its bunching growth habit, it is perfect for mixing with legumes for pasture. Tuukka Timothy does not tolerate alkalinity, drought, salt or shade very well.


Well-suited for hay-production, Tuukka Timothy grass does not tolerate close, continuous grazing. The best results will be to allow grazing down to 3 to 4-inches once the grass reaches 10 to 12-inches high. This provides the best leaf-to-stem ratio and maximizes the forage quality.


The recommended seeding rate for Tuukka Timothy Seed is 10 to 12 pounds per acre if planted alone, and 2 to 6 pounds per acre when mixed with other grasses or legumes. The exception is when sowing a new seeding with a predominantly alfalfa field. The recommended seeding rate then is no more than 1.5 pounds per acre.
