Ranunculus Flower Seeds

Ranunculus Flower Seeds are just one of a very few species of bloomers that is grown from a rhizome, similar to a bulb, but that also produces seeds capable of producing plants true to the parent. Once established, gardeners will usually remove the spent blossoms before the seed heads form, allowing better rhizome production and conservation of precious plant nutrients. Not easy to find in many areas, we offer Ranunculus from seed, enabling you to establish your own bed, from which the rhizomes will spread and can even be harvested and divided to be shared or planted in other parts of your landscape. To plant the rhizome, it should be planted with the tip pointing down, about 2-inches deep in well-drained soil. In zones colder than zone 6 and in the colder parts of zone 7, ranunculus rhizomes are planted in house pots in late winter or in the ground after all frost has passed, and then grown like an annual summer flower. Their best garden performance is where winters are mild and the spring is long and cool, though growing plants can handle temperatures below 20°F for several hours, tolerating soil temperatures down to 10°F.

Ranunculus, pronounced ruh-NUNK-you-luss, is sometimes known as Persian Buttercup, Turban Buttercup or Persian Crowfoot and is a perennial in part of the country, though most people will know it as an annual due to its limited perennial zones. A fantastically soft looking blossom, the flower will resemble a peony with whorls of papery thin petals and are available in a plethora of stunning colors from pleasing pastels to rich jewel-toned colors. Ranunculus need full sunlight and exceptionally well-drained soil. If the spot you’ve chosen does not drain well, add 3 to 4-inches of organic material to improve drainage and amend clay soils with sand. As with most blooming plants, good nutrition will result in the best performance, especially for those plants grown in containers where plants will more quickly use up the available nutrients. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Ranunculus seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
