Perovskia Plants

Perovskia is actually a member of the mint family, though a semi-woody shrub rather than a low growing ground cover. It is native to Afghanistan and Pakistan where it grows in rocky and gravelly soils.

Perovskia, pronounced per-OFF-skee-uh, also known as Russian Sage, is named for a 19th century Russian general and seems to be as stout and hardy as that namesake probably was. Best when utilized in mass plantings, Russian Sage displays an airy cloud of startling blue flowers above arching stems that are powdery white with silvery foliage. Drought tolerant and also seemingly oblivious to salt, chalky soils and high pH, Perovskia performs well once established. Cut back to the ground before new growth begins in the spring, as this will produce the best flowering.
