Hedera, pronounced HED-er-uh, commonly called English Ivy, is very adaptable and grows fast, possibly becoming invasive in the most ideal situations. If you need to restrict its spread, simply plant it within the confines of partially buried border edging. The roots are shallow, so aggressive restriction is not necessary.
