The Abelia shrub is also called the Bridal Wreath Shrub and is a semi-evergreen in all but the most northern climates, where it is a deciduous shrub, meaning that it drops its leaves in the winter. Small trumpet-shaped flowers ranging in color from white to purply-pink hang pendulously on stems that arch gracefully upwards from the ground and are quite fragrant. A member of the honeysuckle family, Abelia is often used as trailing accents in bridal bouquets and fresh flower arrangements and can even be used as a flowered headpiece. The Abelia shrub is most often utilized for foundation plantings, screens and hedges. Its delicate flowers looks its best when protected from strong winds and only requires minimal pruning to remove dead or damaged branches in the spring. The dark green, glossy leaves take on a purplish or bronze-colored hue in the fall, providing beautiful color throughout the winter in most climates. Abelia prefers full to partial sun and moist, acidic soil. Read about our Abelia plant guarantee on our Satisfaction page. Plants will be available for purchase in December for spring shipping. |
