Potentilla Flower Seeds

Potentilla Flower Seeds are a perennial, deciduous shrub native to California and also known as Shrubby Cinquefoil or the Buttercup Shrub, due to the original yellow color of the blossoms, which has been hybridized over the years to produce pinks, whites and reds.

Potentilla, pronounced poe-ten-TILL-uh, is widely adaptable, being drought tolerant, but also withstanding long periods of wetness. They will grow in fertile soil, but perform just as well in poor soil, preferring a sandy base, but tolerating clay as well, if not too wet. Their ideal spot will be sandy, rocky, well-drained and sunny, though in very hot climates, a bit of afternoon sun is appreciated. The “natural” appearance of this shrub is appreciated in rock gardens and in naturalized landscape designs, the blooms being present from May through to at least the end of August. Though somewhat upright, they tend to trail and are even regularly used as a natural ground cover in areas where the soil is poor and the terrain rocky or hilly. Granular fertilizers of any kind should be kept off the foliage; the best food for Potentilla being Holly-tone® by Espoma, or something similar, as Potentilla is an acid-loving plant like Juniper, Holly, Rhododendron and most evergreens, which should give you plenty of ideas on where you can incorporate Potentilla into your own landscape.

Each order of our fresh Potentilla seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Miss Wilmott Potentilla Flower Seeds

Price $3.48

Our ‘Miss Wilmott’ Potentilla Flower seed produces a Cinquefoil not quite as shrubby as most, in fact, very much resembling an oversized strawberry plant, right down to the coloration of the blossoms. With leaves similar to that of the strawberry the 3-inch, cup-shaped, deep pink, ruffled-petalled blossoms have creamy spots between the pink margins and a bright red halo, at the center of which is a striking, shiny black center. Approximately 100 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
