Organic Leek Seed

Each packet of our Organic Leek Seed has approximately 800 seeds. Each plant produces approximately 1/4 to 1/2-pound of fresh leeks.

A member of the onion family, albeit a more refined member, the leek has been cultivated for an estimated 3000 years. Not to be confused with wild leeks, or ramps, which look more like a scallion and have a fairly strong aroma and flavor, garden leeks have a subtle, sweet flavor.

Leeks will grow best in well-composted soil and perform well if planted in late summer and then harvested in winter or early spring, or planted after all threat of frost has gone. Plant your leek seeds in a 6 to 8-inch trench, gradually filling the trench in as the leeks grow, or hoe the soil up around the shaft of the plants as they mature, so as to blanch the shaft of the plants. They prefer a pH of 6.0 to 6.5 and plenty of sun, both of which can be measured with one of our garden testers .

All of our Leek seeds are OPEN-POLLINATED unless otherwise specified as a HYBRID. All of our organic been seeds are non-GMO!

Organic Large American Flag Leek Seed

Price $3.10

Our Organic Large American Flag Leek Seed produces plants that are 10-18-inches tall with a substantial shaft. Topped with large bluish-green tops, the leaves fan out to wave in stiff breezes, just like a flag. The flavor of this leek is sweet and mild; the stems blanched a snowy white. The superior quality and flavor makes this a customer favorite, as does the fact that this variety over-winters very well for an early spring harvest. Approximately 800 seeds per packet.
