There are two types of Marigold Flower Seeds: French and African. Both are pretty much carefree, not being picky about the soil they grow in, blooming continuously the entire season and lending themselves to practically any application.
One of the easiest bedding plants to grow; marigolds main requirement is they have at least 6 hours of sun daily. They are commonly grown as companion plants for those plants that insects and critters find palatable. Having a somewhat musky fragrance, most rodents and deer will steer clear, while Nematodes will completely abandon an area that has marigolds growing in it.
The taller African marigolds are sturdy, rarely needing support, even in heavy winds. The French Marigolds come in a wider range of colors and are a bit fancier-looking, though not having blossoms near the size of the much larger African Marigolds. French Marigolds make exceptional front border and filler plants, while African Marigolds look good in the center garden for height or in the back border for contrast.
They are not heavy feeders, unless grown in containers, but as they bloom continuously, especially when deadheaded every week or so, they will benefit from monthly feeding. We highly recommend Espoma Flower-tone® or Jungle Flora, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated for blooming plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment.
Each order of our fresh Marigold seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
