Jewel of Africa Nasturtium Flower Seeds

SKU: SFS-NAS-JEWOA-ER
Our ‘Jewel of Africa’ Nasturtium Flower Seed is an old-fashioned nasturtium cultivar producing larger-than-average 2-inch blossoms on pretty green foliage marbled with creamy variegation. The striking, trumpet-shaped blossoms bloom in shades of cream, maroon, orange and yellow, along with the more complex hues of apricot, salmon, scarlet and peach. This is what arbors and trellises are for, though Jewel of Africa looks equally stunning as a ground cover, quickly filling in the most difficult-to-grow-on slope! Approximately 50 seeds per each hand-filled packet. More details...

Jewel of Africa Nasturtium Flower Seeds

Nasturtium Flower Seeds germinate and grow very easily, performing best when directly sown into the garden. Germination will take 10 to 14 days at soil temperatures of 70°F. In temperate zones, sow them in the fall for “winter” blooms; in zones where freezing winter temperatures are normal, wait until after the last frost date for your area before planting. The seeds are large, so easy to space, but they are also hard-shelled. Soaking them in warm water overnight will speed the germination process. Plant them 8 to 12-inches apart, about 1/2-inch deep and keep them consistently moist. Nasturtiums don’t tolerate droughty conditions well, so regular watering is a must, but other than that...just let them grow! Nasturtiums will also perform best in nutrient-poor soil, producing more foliage than blossoms when pampered and fed; planting in partial shade will also produce more leaves, so plant them where they get at least 6 hours of sun per day, if not more. They are sun lovers!
