Geum Flower Seeds yield an extremely hardy perennial plant hailing from the mountainous zones, moist meadows, arctic woodlands and temperate regions of Europe, Asia, Africa, New Zealand and North and South America. Yes, it is quite adaptable, bearing tall, ever-waving blossoms on single, wispy, dramatic stems, usually in late spring to early summer. Geum, is pronounced JEE-um in the UK, but is often pronounced GAY-um in the U.S. Also known as Avens, sometimes prefaced by Alpine, Prairie or other designations of its native locale, this hardy perennial is not found in a lot of chain store nursery sections. The only reason is that until they are growing in your garden, they just aren’t that showy, producing one single flower per stem, rather than having multiple, very noticeable blossoms. Once, however, they are established in your garden, they will send out shoots under the soil that then grow, allowing them to spread, though not aggressively so, and therefore to add more and more blossoms. Their appearance in little nursery pots is just not that impressive, so sales lag; but now that you know the secret…snag these often inexpensive pots up if you find them. Better yet, grow your own and let your friends, family and neighbors discover the decorative value of these often overlooked perennials. Water soluble, slow release fertilizers are the best way to feed most blooming plants. If grown in containers, their need for good nutrition is even higher. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Geum seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
