Flavora Rose Shades Dianthus Flower Seeds

SKU: SFS-DI-FLA-ER
Our ‘Flavora Rose Shades’ Dianthus Flower Seed produces blossoms its first year, without vernalization…and what blossoms they are! This Sweet William bears 1 1/2-inch, heavily fringed flowers with a contrasting colored band around a pink eye. The ‘shades’ comes from the fact that the blossoms range in color from pastel pink, almost white, to rich, deeply saturated magenta, all appearing on the same plant at the same time! Flavora Rose Shades tolerates heat, humidity and drought, blooming its heaviest from March through May. Approximately 50 seeds per each hand-filled packet. More details...

Flavora Rose Shades Dianthus Flower Seeds

Dianthus Flower Seed is easily directly sown into the garden, though you should not expect to see blossoms until the following year if you do so unless the cultivar is specifically bred for first year blossoms. If you start your plants indoors, you are much more likely to have blooms that first year; however some gardeners believe your plants will be more vigorous and longer lasting if started directly in the garden. They should be planted where they will receive at least 5 hours of sunlight each day, the only somewhat strict requirement. They will, in fact, tolerate less, though they may not bloom as prolifically. You can easily establish what areas of your landscape receive the right amount of light by using one of our inexpensive light testers. Dianthus does not require a lot of feeding and are widely adaptable, some gardeners even claiming they thrive on neglect.  You’ll want to cover the seeds lightly and keep moist until they sprout, at which time you can cut back on watering.
