Dahlia Flower Seeds and the flowers they produce are originally native to central Mexico, particularly in the Mexico City region, but are now widely propagated elsewhere, grown as a perennial across the United States. Highly attractive, due to their wide ranging appearance, you can have flowers from 1/2-inch to 12-inches across, in styles such as the “pom-pom”, “double cactus”, “collarette” or single and double “formal decorative”, and in almost any color except true blue. They are disease, heat and drought tolerant and deer tend to avoid them. Dahlia, pronounced DAH-lee-uh, flower seed is larger than many flower seeds; therefore direct seeding is relatively easy. A high percentage of your seeds will germinate, so you can pretty much plant them the same distance apart as you would like them to be spaced, or you can plant them closer together and carefully thin the seedlings, transplanting the ones you take out somewhere else if you choose. The neighbor or your friend across town might appreciate some! Dahlias are heavy feeders, so will benefit from compost or manure worked into the soil when sowing the seeds for a slow-release of nitrogen throughout the season. For the best performance while blooming we recommend supplemental feeding with Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Dahlia seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
