Cottonseed Meal

Cottonseed Meal is a high protein byproduct remaining after cotton is processed, after the seeds are crushed and after the oil is extracted. Widely used in animal feed, it is also utilized in fertilizers. Some concern over the amount of pesticides used on cotton fields has caused some growers to disparage the benefits of using cottonseed meal; but, in fact, compared to other crops, cotton is 8th on the list of pesticide active ingredients applied per acre and organic cottonseed meal has not been subject to chemical pesticides at all. Cottonseed meal applied to alkaline soils will naturally increase acidity, the nutrients are slowly released over a period of about 4 months and cottonseed meal is a good source for trace elements, such as potassium, phosphorus, copper, iron, zinc and manganese.

We recommend testing your soil to determine its current nutrient health prior to adding fertilizers or supplements. We have a full range of soil testers, guaranteed to help you have the most beautiful flower gardens, the most productive vegetable gardens and the healthiest landscape, while providing only what is necessary for the optimal soil health.
