Organic Turnip Seed

Each packet of our Certified Organic Turnip Seed has approximately 1000 seeds, which plants a 150-foot row and produces approximately 150-pounds of fresh turnips.

Turnip seed is generally sown directly into the garden soil. One of our Garden Seeders will make the task much easier. If germinating turnip seed indoors, temperatures should be between 40-60°F. Under the perfect conditions, it takes 3-6 days for turnip seed to germinate. Seeds should be started 3 weeks before your transplant date.

In order to grow the healthiest; best tasting turnips, the pH level of your garden soil should be 6.0-7.0. A home soil tester will take the guess work out of determining the pH levels.

Organic Golden Globe Turnip Seed produces a turnip with amber gold skin and flesh and is an exceptional variety for eating, both the greens and the roots. It is a specialty turnip with delicate flavor. The quality and tenderness are best when harvested at about 3-inches in diameter. Approximately 1000 seeds per packet.

Organic Purple Top White Globe Turnip Seed

Organic Purple Top White Globe Turnip Seed produces an old variety, dating back to before 1880, and is an outstanding all-purpose turnip. The young leaves are a source of winter greens while the root is eaten raw, pickled or cooked alone or added to entrees and side dishes. The flesh is mildly flavored and slightly sweet with fine-grained white flesh. The purple shoulders will show above the ground, while the root will be white underground. These are at their peak when harvested at 3-4 inches, but retain good texture and flavor until quite large. These turnips keep well. Approximately 1000 seeds per packet.

Organic Seven Top Turnip Seed produces an heirloom turnip that is the standard salad turnip of the South. It does not grow a turnip root - it puts all of its energy into growing the best turnip greens you have ever tasted. Seven Top is not a commonly grown vegetable, but it should be. There are not many greens more nutritious and tasty when steamed, stir-fried, or used in salads. Thinned seedlings can also be used for sprouts, so plant generously. Approximately 1000 seeds per packet.
