Product Details
|
Hundreds or even thousands of years ago, Native Americans noted the insect-reducing benefits of having purple martins nearby, and they hung hollowed-out gourds for the birds to use as housing. Today, purple martins in the eastern half of North America no longer use natural cavities in trees or cliff faces for housing; they rely exclusively upon human-provided housing for nesting and raising their young. The crescent-shaped doors are starling resistant. Please note that region, time of year, position of birdhouse, level of care given, and presence of predators all affect the success of your purple martin colony. It’s best to educate yourself about purple martin management before attempting to attract and manage a colony. Should purple martins not migrate to your area, your Lone Star Goliad may easily become a perfect home to any number of other beautiful birds, such as mountain bluebirds, western bluebirds, tree swallows, violet-green swallows, chickadees, wrens, woodpeckers, flycatchers, titmice, owls, kestrels, and nuthatches. Made in the U.S.A.
