Citrus-tone® contains 5% Nitrogen, of which 3% is a slow release formula, as well as the necessary blend of Phosphate and Soluble Potash. Citrus-tone® is a totally natural, premium blend of ingredients that have been university tested to produce the optimum results when growing citrus and avocados. Here are some tips for growing the most flavorful and healthiest citrus and avocado crops: - For New Plantings: Plan ahead and keep the size of the mature tree in mind. For best results, you should plant in an area that receives full sun exposure. Dig your hold twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball, replacing 1/3 of the soil with compost, peat moss or a commercially prepared planting mix of your choice. Then add 1-cup of Espoma Citrus-tone® into the soil mix. Make a small mound in the center of the hole and plant the tree so that the roots are fanned over and around the mound. Then add the fortified soil until the roots are covered by several inches and tamp gently. Once settling has occurred, the soil level against the trunk should be the same or slightly lower than what was present at the nursery or in the pot. Water thoroughly and monitor moisture levels regularly. After 6-8 inches of new growth, begin the feeding schedule below.
- Application Method & Rates: Simply determine the correct amount of Espoma Citrus-tone® required from the chart on the package. Sprinkle the plant food evenly around the outer edge of the branches of the tree and mix lightly into the top inch of soil. Plant food should never be applied within 6” of the trunk and should be watered thoroughly after each application. For potted plants, use one teaspoon per 4” of pot diameter. Double this amount for pots over 12” and apply towards the outside of the pot, watering thoroughly
Feeding Schedule: - January/February—Pre-bloom application will enhance flowering and increase fruit production.
- May/June—Post-bloom application will encourage better fruit set.
- September/October—feeding now will ensure the tree’s overall nutrient needs are met.
