Dusting Sulfur provides a versatile method of controlling insects and diseases. It can be used as a dust or wettable spray on roses, shrubs, flowers, fruits and vegetables. Also controls black spot, powdery mildew, leaf spot and rusts.
Dusting Sulfur is a finely ground form of elemental sulfur which is used to combat some diseases and insect pests of various crops such as grapes, all types of melons and squashes, tomatoes and peppers, roses, and citrus, among others.
For the disease control it typically best against mildews, in particular powdery mildew. It must be applied before the disease is present as it forms a protective coating over the leaf of the plant. Dust is used as this very fine particles get everywhere and form this protective layer.
For insect control, Sulfur dust is not particularly toxic, it kills some pests and also makes the area where it is applied less desirable to the pest. Only effective on a few pests such as some mites, and thirps. Again the dust form gets everywhere.
Sulfur is also applied as a spray when it is formulated with some wetting agents which help it mix with water.
