Chicory Seed

Each packet of Certified Organic Chicory Seed has approximately 1000 seeds.

Chicory can be harvested for its roots, which are often used as a coffee substitute or additive, or for its leaves, which are often used in salads. The tender shoots are also known as Belgian endive. The striking azure blue flowers rival the daisy for beauty.

Chicory seeds can be sown directly into the garden, or can be started indoors and then transplanted. When it is germinated indoors, temperatures should be 80°F. Under the correct conditions, it takes 10-21 days for the chicory seed to germinate.

In order to grow the healthiest; best tasting chicory, the pH level of your garden soil should be between 4.5-8.3, one of the less picky herbs to grow. But, Chicory does prefer a soil rich in organic nutrients. A soil tester will take the guess work out of determining the pH levels and the essential nutrients needed in your garden soil.

All of our Chicory seeds are OPEN-POLLINATED unless otherwise specified as a HYBRID.

Chicory 'Catalogna' Organic Seed Packet

Price $3.45

Chicory is in the endive family. 'Catalogna' produces leaves and seed stalks used for early greens with asparagus like flavor. Catalogna has deep-cut dandelion like leaves. A rapid grower, Catalogna produces tender green stalks from seed when sown the summer before. Many people grow Chicory to do double duty as an ornamental plant and as an herb. It is slow to bolt and if allowed to go to seed, will grow prolifically. Chicory is also becoming popular as a forage crop for livestock.
