Broccoli contains large amounts of vitamin C and beta carotene, which are important antioxidants. Antioxidants help reduce the risk of some forms of cancer and heart disease.
Use a good starter plant food when planting your broccoli, then side-dress with nitrogen when the plants are half-grown. Provide ample soil moisture, especially as the heads develop. Harvest the central head when it is fully developed and before it begins to separate. When cutting, leave 5" of stem with the head.
Aphids and cabbage worms are the biggest pest problems; keep them under control with our organic Diatomaceous Earth.
