The garden chrysanthemum is one of the most exciting flowers for producing late summer and fall color.
Garden mums require a minimum amount of care and do well even under some adverse conditions. They are so forgiving that many children has started their gardening experiences by planting a mum.
Garden mums do best in well drained soil that receives full sun. Chrysanthemums should be spaced so the plants can develop to their maximum; we recommend 24-36 inches apart.
Chrysanthemums benefit from thorough waterings and a fertilizing program. We recommend both dry and soluble fertilizers. Flower-tone is a quality dry application and Neptune’s Harvest is an outstanding soluble application. All feeding should be discontinued before the flower buds start opening - or your flower color will fade.
If your garden mums start growing leggy, they can be pinched to produce compact plants with more flowers, pinching should be discontinued at the beginning of August. The Belgian mums are bred not to require pinching; however if they grow their second year, it may be helpful.
Our garden mums will start shipping the 3rd week of May.
