Backyard critter food not only ensures our backyard wildlife continues to thrive, but fulfills the responsibility we all share for their having to share their homes with us. Yes, they were here first, regardless of where you live, and so they visit our backyards, singing their songs, making us laugh with their antics and otherwise bringing enjoyment to our lives.
The truth is they are not there to entertain us, but are there because they are hungry and we have moved into their homes. So, they munch on our shrubbery, on our vegetable gardens and fruit trees as their natural habitat shrinks and ours expands. Ever heard that old saying, “If you can’t beat ‘em; join ‘em”? By offering the birds Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, Nyjer Seed, Peanuts, Grey Striped Sunflower Seeds, Sunflower Chips and Suet Cakes, you are offering them high protein, nutritious options to what you’ve grown for your own family or to decorate your landscape. Feeding them through the winter will ensure they don’t starve and suffer. You can even encourage the squirrels to leave the bird feeders alone by offering Squirrel Cakes or Corn, which will give you many opportunities to watch, not only the hilarious antics of the squirrels, but the interaction and competition between them, the birds, the rabbits, and even a deer or two. And if you have children, you are missing some fantastic teaching moments by not offering backyard wildlife food. So, join us in our efforts to make the lives of these tiny backyard critters easier. Feed them and house them; make fresh water available, and while you’re at it, choose some backyard décor to make you happy as well. |
