Sweet Potato plants produce one of our world's richest, most flavorful vegetables. Considering their fiber content, complex carbohydrates, protein, vitamins A and C, iron, and calcium, sweet potatoes rank highest of all in nutritional value. Sweet potato plants grow best in a well-drained, loamy to sandy soil, if you do not have this type of soil, make a ridge before planting. They need at least 1" of water per week. Watering should be reduced as the plants come closer to maturity; this helps prevent your tubers from cracking. Northern gardeners would benefit from covering the ridge with black plastic about 3 weeks before plants are expected to arrive. The plastic will warm the soil, and your plants will start growing immediately and produce the biggest harvest you have ever had. For more planting tips, see our blog entry on Sweet Potatoes. Each order arrives with growing instructions adapted to your region and climate. These instructions will help you grow the biggest sweet potatoes ever—and more of them.
