Sedum Flower Seeds

Sedum Flower Seeds produce what some call the “perfect plant”, if only the deer didn’t like them. This hardy perennial is basically care-free. They have thick, succulent leaves and bloom late in the season, meaning they stand up well to both drought and the stresses of rain and wind storms. Also called Stonecrop, they come in a wide variety of cultivars in differing heights, widths and colors, their flower heads easily covering the top two thirds of the plants. Thriving in low-water and in sandy or rocky soil, these broadly adaptable and robust perennials are not susceptible to diseases and have few pests.

Sedum, pronounced SEE-dum, needs a well-drained environment, but otherwise requires no deadheading to continue to bloom, nor do they require pruning. Sedum, in most climates, will continue to look good right through the winter, the dried seed heads being a favorite of migrating song birds and local residents, as well as providing architectural interest in winter gardens. Extreme heat and lack of sun will cause Sedum to get leggy, so though pruning is not required, pruning your Stonecrop back in early July will encourage bushier, sturdier growth if either of these conditions exists. Some time after their third year, the center of your Sedum plants may start looking a little tired, at which point you can easily divide the plants to keep them vigorous and looking fresh. Stem cuttings are also an easy way to propagate Stonecrop, and can be taken at any time. As with any blooming plant, those pretty blossoms take a lot of energy and good nutrition. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Sedum seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
