Saxifraga Flower Seeds are a perennial flowering plant, considered an alpine plant, one whose leaves often grow in the shape of a rosette, close to the ground and are often succulent-like, needle-shaped or somewhat fuzzy, all of which is designed to reduce evaporation, making them fairly drought-tolerant. You will also however, find some of this family in moist meadows, these saxifrage, or Rockfoil plants usually being larger. Saxifraga, pronounced sacks-IFF-ruh-guh, is the genus name for a group of plants more often known as Saxifrage or Rockfoil. Saxifrage, literally, in Latin, means “stone-breaker”, though there is some disparity on whether this name was given due to its alpine roots or because of its medicinal uses for treatment of kidney stones. Regardless, saxifrage are growing in popularity, these pretty perennials having wispy, single flower clusters, known as inflorescences, rising above the rosettes of foliage on naked, or leafless, stems. As with most blooming plants, good nutrition will result in the best performance, especially for those plants grown in containers where plants will more quickly use up the available nutrients. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Saxifraga seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
