Primrose Flower Seeds are an old-time annual popularized for use in nosegays, or miniature bouquets, and often utilized as bedding, edging and container plants, being especially pretty and effective when planted with spring-blooming bulbs, such as jonquil, daffodil or tulips. Primroses can be a bit of a challenge to grow, but once you’ve succeeded…how proud you’ll be! Primrose is scientifically known as Primula, pronounced PRIM-you-luh, and is grown as a short-lived perennial in some areas of the country. Highly attractive to butterflies, primrose prefers to be grown in partial to full shade and in moist, organically-rich soil, disliking the heat of summer and wet winters. Their blooms lasting for weeks, the ground-hugging foliage grows in rosettes of lush, verdant leaves, the blossoms rising above the mounds of foliage in hues of blue, pink, red, white and yellow. Primrose is a particularly good choice for a shady corner, the north side of the house and as an early-season ground cover under deciduous foundation shrubs, providing bright, early spring color. They are often planted to fill in the bare spots under trees and will enjoy a slightly acidic soil with a pH around 6.5. Primrose is not recommended for zones 9 and above as they need the lower cooler temperatures in order to survive and bloom, though some of the English Primrose plants are more tolerant of heat and dry soil than others. As with most blooming plants, good nutrition will result in the best performance. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Primrose seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
