Nepeta Plants

Nepeta is more commonly known as Catmint or Catnip and is a prolific grower in just about any soil type. Having a somewhat sprawling growth habit, the shorter varieties are often used for edges and along paths while the taller varieties are a traditional under-planting for roses or are planted against a fence or foundation in order to support the delicate foliage and blossoms.

Nepeta, pronounced NEP-eh-tuh, has slightly aromatic grayish-green leaves and is delicately lacy in appearance. The flowers are white, pink or lavender, blooming on long spikes, and will rebloom throughout the season if you deadhead to encourage the behavior.

Nepeta is deer resistant, so can be planted around gardens, though many domestic cats may roll on catnip to enjoy its euphoric side effects. Cat lovers often dry the catmint or tempt their feline companions with fresh Nepeta.

Walker's Low Nepeta Plant

Price $5.70

The 'Walker's Low' Nepeta Plant is a taller variety catnip and was named the Perennial Plant Association's Plant of the Year for 2007. Confused by the name? It was named for a garden, not its size. Its 30-inch height, long blooming season and carefree habit, along with the aromatic grey-green foliage and bluish-violet flower spikes have made this catmint a favorite for underplanting rose gardens. The seeds are sterile, so no need to worry about unintended spreading. Just plant and enjoy!
