Lobularia was once classified under the genus Alyssum, also commonly known as Sweet Alyssum or Sweet Alison. This aromatic flowering plant produces densely packed cushions of tiny flowers atop sturdy stems, blooming from early spring through early fall, except in areas where there is no frost; in those areas they have been known to bloom year round. The leaves are somewhat succulent looking, though normally a little hairy. Trimming the spent blossoms will keep her blooming throughout the growing season.
Lobulari, pronounced lob-yew-LAR-ee-ah, is native to the Mediterranean and has become a very popular garden plant. Sweet Alyssum will re-seed itself in temperate areas and is even used in those areas as part of natural landscaping. Heat tolerant and fast growing, Lobularia is often grown in hanging or tall standing containers, allowing its sweet fragrance to permeate the air around entrances to homes or below windows.
