Lamium Plants

Lamium Plants make a good choice for shaded areas that need ground cover. Lamium is quite showy and once established easy to care for. Lamium prefers somewhat moist conditions but will not tolerate sogginess well, so plant in a well-drained area. They take root where the stems spread and touch the ground but are easy to control by just pulling those stems up. Their root system is quite shallow and they prefer not to be planted too deeply.

Lamium (pronounced LAY-mee-um) also commonly called Spotted Deadnettle, is most often used as a ground cover or edging plant, but can also be planted in hanging planters to decorate a shaded portion of your covered patio or shaded entryway. If used as an edging plant, placing a shallow barrier where you don’t want the plant to spread will totally eliminate the need to pull up rooting stems. Dividing the plants every few years will keep your Lamium looking fresh and make great gifts for those neighbors that have had their eye on yours. Lamium are also deer and rabbit resistant.
