Cucumbers are a great source of fiber, Vitamins A and C and minerals. Keeping the soil moist at all times will ensure the cucumbers are not bitter. We recommend side-dressing the plants with nitrogen fertilizer as they begin to vine. Your Cucumber vines may be trained to climb trellis netting or a fence; hanging cucumbers will develop straighter fruits and will be more uniformly colored. Cucumbers may be picked when 4 to 6 inches long for dills and 6 to 8 inches long for slicing varieties; do not allow them to turn yellow. Cucumbers are also better when picked in the early morning. We recommend using organic diatomaceous earth for the control of Aphids and Cucumber Beetles. For more complete information on growing, processing and the different varieties available, visit our Cukes blog. We grow our cucumber plants in larger pots, ensuring a more vigorous root system. We guarantee our starter plants to arrive alive, ready to thrive. Our cucumber plants start shipping according to the dates on our Spring Ship Dates page. |
