Chaenomeles (pronounced kee-no-MAY-leez) is more commonly called Flowering Quince, Japanese Flowering Quince, or just plain Quince. A deciduous shrub, it can be trained as a Bonsai. It produces exceptionally beautiful, 2-inch blossoms in the spring which then become a tiny apple-like, sweet and succulent fruit that is favored for jams, pies and jellies.
