Buxus Plants

Buxus Plants, or shrubs, are also known as Boxwoods or just plain "Boxes". This evergreen shrub that is so often used for a border landscape component requires very little care and remains beautiful and well-shaped, sometimes with no pruning at all.

Buxus (pronounced BUCK-sus) are recognizable for their very dense leaves and their compact growth habit. Boxwoods are slow growing, only reaching about 3-feet tall at maturity. This slow growth makes pruning them to your desired shape an easy accomplishment, even for the beginner; in fact, especially for the budding landscape artist. We recommend feeding your Boxwood with Holly-tone® in the early spring, early summer, late summer and mid-fall, as they prefer an acidic environment. When putting new plantings in, use half the recommended dosage.

Blauer Heinz Buxus Plant

Price $10.00

The 'Blauer Heinz' Buxus Plant is a variety of "English Box" or boxwood that is extremely slow-growing and forms a particularly dense, round shrub, even without pruning. The blue-green foliage of this boxwood has a glaucous, or powdery, coating similar to what you might see on red grapes. It gives the deeply-colored foliage a silvery appearance, especially when in bright light, though the more shade, the bluer and deeper the color of the foliage. Use as a low hedge or as a specimen plant in a rock garden.
