|
Physostegia Flower Seeds produce a square-stemmed perennial native to North Eastern, Eastern, South Eastern and Southern regions of North America, especially those areas that are swampy or quite wet, like along creek beds and around ponds. The wild cultivars are known to be quite aggressive growers, though the newer, “tamer” varieties have been bred specifically for their beauty and their non-aggressive natures. Physostegia, pronounced fizz-oh-STEE-jee-uh, and most often followed by virginiana (vur-jin-ee-AY-nuh), is more commonly known as the Obedient Plant or the Obedience Plant, but may also be known as False Dragonhead. The first moniker is due to its willingness to bend, and stay that way, being quite obedient when pushed or prodded while being arranged in the vase; they are extremely long-lived in cut flower arrangements as well. The dragon reference is most likely due to the flowers’ resemblance to Snap Dragons. In fact, the Obedient Plant is related to salvia. Widely adaptable, the most aggressive species can be kept in check by not giving them what they crave most—moist, rich, organic growing material; or you can plant them in restricted beds or containers where the rhizomes are not able to allow their spread. If planted in containers, you will definitely want to provide nourishment, as they will use up their supply quickly. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Physostegia seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
