Our Pentas Flower Seeds produce an evergreen shrub bedecked with clusters of star-shaped blossoms, a beacon to butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and other essential pollinators. In cold climates Pentas is most often grown as an annual or is potted, being carried indoors for the winter and put back outside for the spring and summer. In temperate climes, like in its native Africa, they are considered perennial sub-shrubs and can grow up to 4-feet tall. Pentas, pronounced PEN-tass, are often called Egyptian Star Clusters. They will prefer a sunny site, most gardeners supplying them with a prominent location, the better to watch the winged visitors! A necessity for a Cottage Garden, they can be interplanted with rudbeckiea, lantanas and petunias, a really nice pairing being drifts of pentas planted alongside daylilies. They will not like to dry out, performing their best when the soil is kept at about the same level of moisture as a well-wrung-out sponge. If the soil on the top feels dry, water; pentas sometimes requires water twice a day when the weather is extremely hot. If you find this to be the case season after season, you may want to plant your pentas where there is afternoon shade. As with all living things, pentas require adequate nutrition to perform at their best. In order to meet the nutritional needs of your pentas, in the container or in the ground, we recommend regular feeding with Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated specifically for blooming plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment. Each order of our fresh Pentas seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
