Our Osteospermum Flower Seeds are most commonly grown as an annual, but in temperate climates is a half-hardy perennial and is even considered a sub-shrub in some areas. They will not survive persistent frosts, but even where light frost is common in the winter, if they are well-mulched to preserve heat, they have been known to survive from year to year, for several years. Osteospermum, pronounced oss-tee-oh-SPUR-mum, are grown in both containers and in the ground, this long-blooming and extremely colorful daisy-like flower being extremely popular around the world. Also called African Daisy, Cape Daisy, South African Daisy or Blue-eyed Daisy, growing these for just one season will have you doing the same year after year. Osteospermum enjoy a good hair cut; this will encourage further branching and blooming, especially on the more “hardy” types, the best time to cut them back being in the early spring or in the fall. In between prunings, deadheading the spent flowers will ensure more blossoms. African Daisies, especially when planted in containers, require a steady, nutritional diet to continue to perform. Feed every 2 weeks if in containers or every month if planted in the ground. We recommend regular feeding with Espoma Flower-tone® or Jungle Flora, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated for blooming plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment. Each order of our fresh Osteospermum seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
