Monarda Flower Seeds

Our Monarda Flower Seeds are a perennial also commonly known as Bee Balm and sometimes called Oswego Tea, Bergamot, Horsemint or Lemon Mint. Easy-to-grow in virtually all conditions; in the ideal conditions, Bee Balm can become invasive, just as mint can, though it does not spread quite as readily. Ideal conditions would involve growing it in the shade, in fertile ground with consistent moisture. On the other hand, you can grow Bee Balm in the bare areas under trees in wooded areas; it will fill in the bare spots and choke out any weeds that may exist or try to exist.

Monarda, pronounced mo-NAR-duh, attracts all manner of beneficial pollinators, such as honeybees and butterflies, but also is a hummingbird favorite and will lure those useful predatory or parasitic insects that will do away with some of the more damaging garden pests, such as aphids or tomato horn worms. A simple to install in-ground barrier will effectively solve the problem of unwanted spreading. Additionally, Bee Balm is edible, the flowers being attractive in salads and as summertime garnish; the leaves being used fresh or dried to add a light, pleasing, minty flavor to teas. All blooming plants require extra sustenance when getting ready to bloom or in bloom. We highly recommend Espoma Flower-tone® or Jungle Flora, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated for blooming plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment.

Each order of our fresh Monarda seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
