Leucanthemum Flower Seeds

Our Leucanthemum Flower Seeds yields a perennial which was once a member of the genus Chrysanthemum, but is now considered in the same genus as that of the sunflower and goes by many names: Shasta Daisy, Common Daisy, Dog Daisy, Moon Daisy, Ox-Eye or Oxeye Daisy and Margarite. Here, we must point out a misconception and impart a bit of knowledge. There is a huge difference between Leucanthemum vulgare (vulgare meaning common) and Leucanthemum superbum (that is superb-um, not super bum). Leucanthemum vulgare is the weed-like, wild oxeye daisy, while Leucanthemum x superbum will be a hybrid, the Shasta Daisy, lovingly and painstakingly bred for its less-than-weedlike behavior. Vulgare is oftentimes considered a weed, while superbum is a hybrid. You can grow Leucanthemum x superbum from seed, but it will not readily spread, becoming invasive as Leucanthemum vulgare is prone to do.

Our Leucanthemum, pronounced lew-CAN-theh-mum, is bred from the typical perennial wildflower often seen growing on wide open grasslands, in meadows, under scrub and in open-canopied forests, but has been hybridized; therefore not of the invasive variety and definitely a welcome addition to your landscape. An edible flower, the unopened buds can be marinated and used like capers would be used, or the fully opened flowers as decoration on cakes, additions to salads, and of course, as part of your summer and early fall fresh cut flower arrangements. Thriving in a wide range of conditions, it is most often grown as an ornamental, either in and amongst other plants and cut flowers or as the bright and attention-getting decoration for wagon wheels, driftwood or rock formations in the landscape. Growing in full sun to partial shade and adaptable to just about any soil type, good drainage is a must, as is a good diet. We highly recommend Espoma Flower-tone® or Jungle Flora, both of which are approved for organic gardening, are formulated for blooming plants and are safe for use around your family and pets, as well as being safe for the environment.

Each order of our fresh Leucanthemum seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
