Heuchera Flower Seeds

Heuchera Flower Seeds yield an herbaceous perennial native to North America, most widely known as Coral Bells, Alum root or Alumroot. Most broadly grown for its incredibly colored foliage, the newest cultivars have seen brighter and more vigorously growing blossoms, just adding to their popularity. The colorful, substantial foliage below the petite and tall-reaching blossoms, sometimes lends an ethereal or misty quality that is quite enchanting.

Heuchera, pronounced HEW-ker-ah, grows in many different habitats, and as such, can vary widely from one species or one cultivar to the next. One variety, for example, grows on the rocky, windy, salty shores of California’s Channel Islands, while another blooms prolifically in warm, dry Arizona canyons. Long used by Native Americans of the Northwest, a tonic can be made of the roots to aid with digestive problems and extractions from the roots have been used to stop minor bleeding, shrink swelling and reduce inflammation. Tangy and slightly astringent, the leaves can even be used to spice up bland-flavored greens. However, it is the foliage shapes, patterns and colors that garner the most attention! Shallow-rooted, they are highly adaptable to container growth, but also perform well in the garden, especially when divided every 3 or 4 years. Mulching is recommended to prevent winter heaving, but leave the area for 2 or 3-inches around the crown free of mulch to prevent rotting. Water soluble, slow release fertilizers are the best way to feed Heuchera. If grown in containers, their need for good nutrition is even higher. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants.

Each order of our fresh Heuchera seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.
