Helenium Flower Seeds |

Helenium Flower Seeds are just one of a genus of somewhere around 40 herbaceous plants in the daisy family. Native to North and Central America, the blossoms are almost always yellow or orange and have prominent central cones, usually covered in pollen, appearing relatively fuzzy and always extraordinarily large and conspicuous. Helenium, pronounced hel-EE-nee-um, is also called Sneezeweed, based on the fact that its leaves used to be used to make snuff, a powder purposely inhaled to cause sneezing, supposedly ridding the body of evil spirits. Also called False Sunflower Rosilla or Yellow Star and attracting butterflies in droves, this extremely hardy annual can often be cultivated as a perennial and will still be blooming when other flowers have started to fade. Their naturally “wild” look makes them an exceptional companion for ornamental grasses and a fantastic cut flower to add interest and texture to your fresh cut flower creations. Helenium can be propagated easily by dividing in the spring or with a bit more difficulty from stem cuttings, but is also easily sown by seed. In the wild, Heleniums are often found in moist or wet habitats and can even be grown in heavy clay soils with success. Water soluble, slow release fertilizers are the best way to feed Helenium. If grown in containers, their need for good nutrition is even higher. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are approved for organic gardening and are safe for your family, pets, livestock and water habitats, as well as being specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Helenium seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
