Garden Gypsum

Garden gypsum is most beneficially used in arid and coastal regions where the soil salt content is high and in areas where there is exceptionally high clay content, at least for the backyard gardener. In commercial applications, it is more widely used to change the structure and fertility of heavy clay soils, especially heavily weathered soils or soil subject to intensive crop production. There are only occasional reports of it increasing or decreasing soil pH and its overuse can induce magnesium deficiency in acidic soils, as well as increasing the leaching of iron and manganese.
