Product Details

Earthworm Castings are now available for the general public, without having to farm the worms. American Organics, Inc., a Grower-Owned Cooperative, has made it possible for everyone, from the largest commercial operation to the back-yard or community gardener, to have the healthiest lawns, plants, gardens and houseplants, in short order, without the use of chemicals.

How to use Earthworm Castings:

  • Top-dress the soil—applying on top of your soil in a 1/2-inch to 1-inch layer allows the nutrients to immediately start filtering down to the roots every time you water. For potted plants apply castings monthly using one teaspoon for every inch of your plants’ height. For your lawn, use about 10 pounds (8-quarts) per 100 square feet and water moderately.
  • Side-dress the soil—if you already have crops in the ground, simply applying Earthworm Castings alongside each row will produce the same benefits. You can line seed furrows with a thin layer or plant transplants on top of a few teaspoons.
  • Mix with the soil—Mix at a rate of about 20% castings with potting soil for house plants. Mix worm castings with shredded coir or peat moss and add to sandy soil to make a rich, fertile, water retaining soil almost overnight.

The Benefits of using Worm Castings:

  • Less watering-worm castings help to retain water, so light to moderate watering, rather than heavy watering, is the general rule.
  • Over 60 micro-nutrients and trace minerals enable your plants to get what they need, as they need it, over weeks and months.
  • Tons of beneficial microbes and bacteria help to inhibit the development of bacterial and viral diseases.
  • The natural production of certain enzymes repels white flies, aphids, spider mites and other pests that feed on plant juices.
  • No chemicals, means no chemical runoff and no destruction of the soil’s microbiology.

There are so many reasons to try Earthworm Castings.

"Absolutely amazing stuff!"

Laurel on 7/20/2011 10:14:16 AM

Comment: I was given some unidentified perennial starts that were already on their way to wilting in their little peat pots. It was still a couple of days before I could pot them, which I chose to do until I know what the heck they are. Out of 6 plants, three of them appeared almost dead, but I planted them anyway and hoped for the best, depending upon the "miracle" of worm castings to do the impossible. (I really didn't think they would.) But the impossible happened and all but one of those plants is no... More details
