Doronicum Flower Seeds

Doronicum Flower Seeds produce a daisy-like hardy annual that is sometimes grown as a tender perennial, and like the daffodil, is one of the first to bloom in the spring. Actually blooming close on the daffodils, many gardeners recommend planting Doronicum, also called Leopard’s Bane, in front of the daffs so as to provide more yellow color once the daffodils have started to fade.

Doronicum, pronounced doe-RON-ih-kum, will grow in full sun, but actually prefers a bit of shade, especially in the afternoon, best. It will need a lot of moisture, especially when first becoming established. The flowers are almost always yellow or shades thereof, though some of the newer cultivars are showing up closer to orange. The petals will be numerous, sometimes doubled up, and will stand straight out from the central cone, similar to a daisy. The leaves are heart-shaped, though rounded, have sharply scalloped edges and are sometimes fuzzy. These make fantastic cut flowers, their color and texture a pleasing complement to almost any other flower you might grow. As always, we highly recommend a slow release, organic fertilizer. Neptune’s Harvest is a good choice, aiding in germination and encouraging development of healthy roots. Espoma Flower-tone® is specially formulated for blooming plants, and both of these are recommended for organic gardening, being safe for you, your children, your pets and the environment.

Each order of our fresh Doronicum seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality.

Little Leo Doronicum Flower Seeds

Price $4.02

Our ‘Little Leo’ Doronicum Flower Seed produces a herbaceous perennial, one of the first perennials to bloom in the spring and with dazzling, happy yellow coloration. Little Leo Leopard’s Bane is short, at just about 12-inches in height, but will grow just as wide. No doubt named for the “mane” of petals around the central cone, Little Leo has big visual impact. This is a fantastic cut flower, even being appropriately showy as a single specimen in a tiny bud vase, though a bouquet of them is quite arresting! Approximately 50 seeds per each hand-filled packet.

Our ‘Magnificum’ Doronicum Flower Seed produces a taller herbaceous perennial than Little Leo, but with the same sunny-type blossom and early blooming habit. Grow Leopard’s Bane with other perennials, like daffodils, that may be fading just as Magnificum blossoms. And stock up on pretty vases; you can’t help but want to fill them with these! Approximately 150 seeds per each hand-filled packet.
