Organic Chicory Seed

Each packet of Certified Organic Chicory Seed has approximately 1000 seeds. Chicory seed can be sown directly into the garden, or can be started indoors and then transplanted. When it is germinated indoors, temperatures should be 80°F. Under the correct conditions, it takes 10-21 days for the chicory seed to germinate. Seeds should be started 6 weeks before your transplant date.

In order to grow the healthiest; best tasting chicory, the pH level of your garden soil should be between 4.5-8.3, one of the less picky herbs to grow. But, Chicory does prefer a soil rich in organic nutrients. A soil tester will take the guess work out of determining the pH levels and the essential nutrients needed in your garden soil.

The Organic Emerald Catalogna Chicory Seed produces leaves and seed stalks which are used for early greens with asparagus-like flavor. Emerald Catalogna has deep-cut dandelion like leaves. A rapid grower, it produces tender green stalks from seed when sown the summer before. Many people grow Chicory to do double duty as an ornamental plant and as an herb. It is slow to bolt and if allowed to go to seed, will grow prolifically. Chicory is also becoming popular as a forage crop for livestock. Approximately 1000 seeds per packet.

The Organic Frisée Chicory Seed is called endive in Britain and Curly Chicory in France, but has been a staple in gourmet restaurants since the 1990s. Use Frisée Chicory sparingly, as its distinctive flavor goes a long way. The unique, curly, finely cut, somewhat feathery-looking sprigs add interest and exotic appeal to salads, making a nice, uncommon garnish as well. Approximately 1000 seeds per packet.
