Our Candytuft Flower Seeds are also known as Iberis and are available in both annual and perennial varieties. Currently, all perennial varieties (Iberis Sempervirens) will be white, while the annual varieties (Iberis Umbellata) range in colors from pink to purple and also include white. The blossoms are “tufts” of tiny flowers clustered atop a loose green mat, the annual varieties growing just a little taller than the perennial cultivars. Iberis, pronounced EYE-ber-iss, is surprisingly in the mustard family, having its roots in Spain. This small, compact, evergreen bush is easily grown by seed, making it very popular with novices and children; the germination time is relatively short-normally about 2-weeks. Candytuft is also widely adaptable, even thriving in poor soils, as long as drainage is adequate. The perennial varieties survive best if mulched over the winter and will benefit from a spring pruning, increasing bushiness and encouraging lots of lush new growth; prune stems back to about 4-inches in the spring. Its adaptability to poor soils and its drought tolerance once established make it a popular low-growing accent for rock gardens. We recommend Jungle Flora or Espoma Flower-tone®, both of which are organically rich and specially formulated for blooming plants. Each order of our fresh Candytuft seeds is filled by hand, put into a resealable plastic bag and then placed into a labeled seed packet. It is our goal to provide our customers the best in freshness and quality. |
