When used consistently, hardpan is effectively broken up and water absorption and retention is greatly improved; it is estimated that for every inch of top growth, there is approximately 4-inches of root growth. Annual Ryegrass seed is also being widely sown for cover crops after soybean and corn and for haylage and grazing.


Sow Annual Ryegrass seed 40 days before the first killing frost so as to have plants mature enough to survive the winter and you will have abundant spring forage pasture or hay, as well as improved soil.


The recommended seeding rate is 15 to 30 pounds per acre on new pasture or 10 to 15 pounds when mixed.
